By: Leslie Ann Glossner M.S.

My name is Leslie Ann Glossner, and I am delighted and excited to be joining the Recovered and Restored team as one of the eating disorder therapists. At Recovered and Restored, I have the privilege of working with clients who are struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, OCD, and anxiety.  Those who are ready to take the steps to work through them! I get to collaborate with a team of brilliant women who are passionate about recovery and use our collective expertise to aid our clients in the healing process. We have the privilege of serving clients in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, South Carolina, and Florida.

The Journey to Becoming a Pennsylvania Eating Disorder Therapist

Leslie Ann - a Pennsylvania Eating Disorder Therapist

Long story short, my road to becoming a therapist started in my childhood. I was a kid actor whose body, talent, and worth were scrutinized and evaluated by people in the entertainment industry. Don’t get me wrong, being an actor afforded me some incredible opportunities. However, the constant judgment and quest for approval really did a number on my self-worth and body image. Over the course of my childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood, I was able to connect with therapists who gave me the tools to quell my anxiety and support me as I learned my worth. Through their guidance, I realized I wanted to give back to others what they so graciously gave me: self-confidence, power, autonomy, and renewed hope. Subsequently, as soon as I was able, I became a therapist and now use my experience as a client and woman in recovery to better understand the unique worldviews of my clients.

What to Expect When Working with a Pennsylvania Eating Disorder Therapist

When a client steps into my virtual room, I want them to feel safe, comfortable, and heard. The intake process can sometimes be a little sterile so I like to use that time to get to know all sides of my clients- not just the eating disorder side. I believe each one of us is a dynamic, interesting, multifaceted person outside of our disorders! So, I like to see those fun sides, too. I love when my clients introduce me to their pets, their interests, their hopes, and their dreams! I want to celebrate the victories and joys in life with clients as well as work through the areas in need of growth.

Eating disorder therapy can be a very daunting experience. Talking about eating disorders, trauma, and pain can be incredibly scary and thoroughly exhausting. It is my goal to make the process approachable. Using a trauma-informed approach, I always check that my clients are in a position where they are ready to share with me.  I understand that can take time, so I try to encourage patience, openness, and safety in my sessions. I know my clients have the strength within themselves to overcome their eating disorders, I see it as my job to help them access that inner strength.

A Little of My Story

This may sound silly, but my ideal client is someone who shows up! I mean that in a variety of ways. Of course, I want my clients to show up for sessions with me-that’s a given- but it also means they are showing up for themselves. They are taking the massive step of doing emotional work, changing their own lives, and taking their power back. That is just the coolest, bravest thing to me. Additionally, my ideal client is authentically themselves. The fact that I get to work with such strong, unique, special people is one of the highlights of my job. I love hearing about my clients lives and feel so lucky that I get to be a part of a chapter in their story.

Speaking of stories, I’ll tell you a little of mine! I live in the Philadelphia area with my dog, Nova. She’s a four-year old mini goldendoodle, and she’s full of sass. Picture a thirteen-year-old annoyed with her mom- that’s me and Nova. She’s the best snuggler on the plant, though, so I forgive the looks she gives me. Nova and I spend a lot of time on walks and hikes as well as watching television shows and diving into celebrity gossip. I’m proud to call myself a big ol’ nerd as my favorite movies are the Lord of the Rings trilogy- I even have an LOTR themed tattoo! I am a BIG advocate for self-care as well. Rejuvenating naps with a weighted blanket, singing show tunes while taking hot showers, and painting my fingers and toes are just some of the ways I like to take care of myself when I get a little burnt out.

Thank you so much for taking the time to learn a little about me. I cannot wait to learn a little bit about YOU! See you soon and remember: Healing is Possible!!!!
